November Wrap-up!

For today’s post, I’ll be sharing my November wrap-up! I hope you all had a lovely November, filled with lots of reading and cozy vibes.

This was a bit of a slow reading month for me. Between the holiday, prepping for upcoming trips, obsessing over a new video game (Dreamlight Valley, I’m looking at you), and life getting in the way, I didn’t read nearly as much as I wanted to. In total, I read five books. Still, I enjoyed everything I read, which is a definite plus.

Let’s get into the wrap-up as I share what I read in November and my thoughts on each one!

The Bloody Chamber by Angela Carter

A collection of short stories resembling popular fairytales, The Bloody Chamber was a joy to read. This was my first time reading Angela Carter and thought her writing was exquisite. In this collection, she shares different versions of popular fairytales, with the female characters having full autonomy. I was happy to see some familiar fairytales, such as Beauty and the Beast, as well as some that I wasn’t all too familiar with, such as Bluebeard and Puss in Boots. Each of the stories share a common thread while still standing out. I refrain from giving it a full five stars only because there were a few stories that took me a bit longer to get through. Overall, a magnificent piece of work!

The Atlas Paradox by Olivie Blake

The highly anticipated sequel, The Atlas Paradox, was finally released back in October and I got to it this past month. I absolutely loved reuniting with these characters and returning to Blake’s captivating fantasy world. However, I do think this suffers a little second-book syndrome, as the pacing was off at times and it just didn’t feel as eventful as the first book. Regardless, this was a great read and I cannot wait for book three. You can read more of my thoughts in my full review here!

The Wicked King by Holly Black

Next on the list is a much-needed re-read. The Folk of the Air series has been living in my mind rent-free ever since I read it back in January. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that when faced with a minor reading slump, I turned to my favorite in the series, The Wicked King. Holly Black’s Faerie is still as fascinating as ever, filled to the brim with intrigue and a great cast of characters. Jude is one of my favorite protagonists and I love how her relationship with Cardan evolves in this one. I’ll never tire of this series, so I must give it 5 stars, once again!

Legends & Lattes by Travis Baldree

Legends & Lattes follows Viv, an orc who leaves behind the warrior life to start her very own coffee shop. I turned to this book in need of a comfort read and I adored every second. It is perfectly wholesome and has all the cozy vibes you could ever need. On top of that, the characters are all oh-so-lovable with a found family trope. If you’re looking for a comfy and endearing fantasy read, this is a must. You can read my mini-review here!

King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo

Oh Grishaverse, how I’ve missed you. King of Scars has been sitting on my shelf for a minute now and I finally picked it up this month. And I am (once again) obsessed. This book did not disappoint. The pace felt a bit slow at first but it quickly picks up and keeps you hooked. Although I haven’t read the Shadow and Bone trilogy, I quickly fell in love with Nikolai, Zoya, and the rest of the characters. Also, I thought Nina had an amazing arc, and I’m excited to see what she does in the next book. At this point, I will eat up anything Grishaverse-related. All in all, a truly excellent read that I could not put down.
